"My treasures neither clink nor
glitter, but neigh in the moonlight and gleam in the sun."
Arab proverb
"There's something
about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man."
Winston Churchill
There's just something about a horse. Why else would they captivate humankind for more than a millennium? Horses have been painted on caves; crudely carved horses have been found in prehistoric archeological digs. Horses in highly trained, collected poses are carved into Egyptian tombs and whole legions of clay Chinese war horses have been unearthed, posed and ready to answer their emperor's call to battle even in the afterlife.
Horses have been worshipped, feared, loved, throughout time.
What is it about a horse that inspires such feelings of emotion?
Certainly even the commonest horse has a certain air of quiet, dignified nobility about him. A truly well-bred horse is a work of art, hewn of sinew, muscle and bone. Even Michelangelo himself aspired to capture the majesty of the horse.
The Arabian people like to call their horses a "living work of art."
I don't think that is a title that only Arabians can claim. to be continued...
